Sundsvall

A collaboration with Sundsvall Energi

Liquid Wind's second facility is designed in cooperation with the energy company Sundsvall Energi and will be located next to the combined heat and power plant Korstaverket in Sundsvall. Biogenic carbon dioxide will be captured from Korstaverket and combined with green hydrogen, produced from renewable electricity and water to generate green electrofuel.

A combined CCU and CCS project

The planned eFuel production in Sundsvall is estimated to contribute to a 283,000 tons reduction of CO2 emissions annually, primarily by replacing marine fossil fuels (approximately 199,000 tons of CO2) and through permanent storage of fossil carbon dioxide (approximately 84,000 tons of CO2). The Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and CCS permit is handled through a parallel project, run by Sundsvall Energi: project Phoenix.

Quick facts

  • Construction start: 2026

  • Production capacity: up to 130,000 t eMethanol / year

  • Capture of: 140,000 t biogenic CO2 / year

  • Avoided emissions: 283,000 t CO2 / year

We are planning for extensive work over the next several years ahead to enable this development and it can become the largest ever industrial investment in Sundsvall. We will be able to offer our customers energy and waste treatment solutions that will ensure future positive climate footprints. This will place us as one of the companies in pole position in our industry.
